The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has paraded twelve suspects in connection with the shocking killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Abuja.
According to the Police Commissioner, the suspects were arrested after an intensive, intelligence-led investigation that traced their movements and communication patterns following the armed robbery incident on September 29, 2025.
Recovered items from the suspects include a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, a pistol, 36 rounds of live ammunition, mobile phones, cutlasses, and other weapons used during the attack.
Police investigations revealed that the gang sourced their weapons from a supplier in Niger Republic and carried out several similar robberies across the North and the FCT. One of the suspects, identified as Shamsudeen Hassan, allegedly fired the shot that killed the security guard, while the anchor tragically lost her life after falling from her third-floor apartment while trying to escape.
The FCT Police Command assured the public that justice will be served and promised to intensify efforts to curb violent crime within the capital.
“This case will not be swept under the carpet. Every individual involved will face the full wrath of the law,” the Commissioner vowed.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu, aged 29, was a rising star in Nigerian journalism known for her passion, professionalism, and inspiring on-screen presence. Her death sparked nationwide grief and calls for improved security within residential estates across Abuja.
