BREAKING NEWS: Ebonyi Man Arrested for Selling 5-Day-Old Baby for ₦1.5 Million

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man identified as Chukwuma Onwe for allegedly selling his 5-day-old baby boy for ₦1.5 million.

According to police reports, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence that led operatives to uncover the shocking transaction. Onwe, who is said to be from one of the rural communities in the state, reportedly conspired with unidentified accomplices to sell the newborn to a buyer currently on the run.

The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State confirmed the arrest, describing the act as “inhuman, criminal, and morally reprehensible.” He assured the public that the command is intensifying efforts to track down all individuals involved in the illegal sale.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect sold the child barely five days after his birth, citing financial hardship as his motive. The police have since rescued the baby and placed him under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development pending further investigation.

“We will ensure justice is served and that such acts do not go unpunished,” the Police Commissioner stated.

The case has stirred outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the growing cases of child trafficking and baby sales in the country, calling on authorities to strengthen laws protecting infants and vulnerable mothers.
