Abuja, October 2025 — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cleared the air regarding rumors that the agency recovered ₦853 billion in crime proceeds in one year. According to the EFCC, the actual amount recovered is significantly lower, though still substantial.
Here are the facts as confirmed by the EFCC:
- Between October 18, 2023 and October 18, 2024, under Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC recovered ₦248,750,049,365.52 in monetary assets.
- In the same period, over 3,400 individuals were convicted for offences ranging from financial fraud to corruption.
The EFCC stated that claims placing the recovery amount at ₦853 billion are inaccurate and not supported by its internal records.
