In a fresh twist to the lingering controversy surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, his father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, has spoken out against recent claims made by Azeez Fashola, otherwise known as Naira Marley.
Speaking in an interview covered by Punch Newspaper, Mohbad’s father strongly refuted Marley’s position that he never intimidated or bullied the late singer during his lifetime. According to him, his son had indeed faced harassment and intimidation under the leadership of his former record label boss.
Mr. Aloba, who has been vocal since the passing of the 27-year-old musician in September 2023, stated emphatically: “It is a lie, Naira Marley bullied my son. My son told me several times about the intimidation and what he was going through. People should stop twisting the truth.”
The bereaved father further explained that Mohbad’s struggles during his time at Marlian Music were not fabricated tales, but real-life experiences that affected his mental health and career trajectory. He recalled that Mohbad had cried out publicly in October 2022 when he accused Naira Marley of orchestrating an assault on him after he sought to change his manager.
Mr. Aloba insisted that the public must not forget the documented instances where Mohbad expressed fear for his life, including multiple online posts where he directly linked his safety concerns to members of the Marlian record label. He added that dismissing those claims would be tantamount to erasing his son’s truth.
This new statement comes amidst ongoing debates on social media, where Nigerians remain divided over Naira Marley’s alleged role in Mohbad’s struggles before his untimely death. While some believe Marley has been unfairly vilified, others argue that Mohbad’s past cries for help cannot be ignored.
The controversy surrounding the singer’s demise continues to dominate headlines as fans, family members, and industry stakeholders demand clarity and justice. With Mohbad’s father now reaffirming that Naira Marley bullied his son, the matter appears far from being resolved.
