The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has announced it will pause routine updates on its official social media platforms, citing a “lapse in appropriations” due to the shutdown of the U.S. government.
The Embassy stated that updates will be limited to urgent safety, security, or travel advisories until full operations resume.
Consular services, such as passport and visa processing, will continue “as the situation permits,” though there may be delays or disruptions if the shutdown prolongs.
The funding impasse stems from Congress’s failure to pass new budget or temporary funding legislation, triggering a partial shutdown of non-essential federal functions.
This move is not isolated: several U.S. missions worldwide are scaling down public-facing operations during the lapse in appropriations.
