The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja has handed down a 14-year prison sentence to a 61-year-old teacher, identified as Igwe Ngozi, after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old child.
The judgment, delivered by the presiding judge, marks yet another significant step in the state’s ongoing battle against sexual violence, particularly against vulnerable children. The prosecution had argued that the teacher abused his position of trust and authority to perpetrate the act, leaving lasting psychological scars on the young victim.
During the trial, the court heard how the assault occurred and how the child’s family reported the matter, which led to the eventual arrest and prosecution of Ngozi. Witnesses, medical reports, and the testimony of the victim were presented as evidence, leaving the court with no reasonable doubt about the teacher’s culpability.
