Security operatives in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State have arrested a notorious suspected criminal, Umoru Faruk Unusah, for allegedly vandalizing government property.
Unusah was reportedly caught in the act of stealing cable wires from a solar-powered street light, a facility installed by the government to enhance security and provide lighting for residents at night.
Local authorities disclosed that the suspect has been on their watchlist for months, following several incidents of vandalism and theft of public infrastructure in the area. His latest arrest is expected to bring relief to residents who had repeatedly complained about persistent damage to government facilities.
Confirming the development, security sources stated that Unusah would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations. They also reiterated the state government’s warning that vandalism of public property will not be tolerated, stressing that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
Community leaders in Idah have applauded the swift action of security operatives, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
The arrest comes as authorities intensify efforts to safeguard government projects across Kogi State, which have often been targets of vandals and criminal elements.
