In a landmark diplomatic breakthrough, Nigerians can now travel to the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts & Nevis without the need for a visa. The new agreement, which took effect on September 26, 2025, was confirmed during the launch of the Africa–Caribbean Trade and Investment Corridor in Abuja.
The visa-free policy applies to holders of ordinary, official, and diplomatic passports, making St. Kitts & Nevis the first country outside of ECOWAS and Africa to enjoy such a travel privilege with Nigeria.
Speaking at the announcement, Nigerian officials said the move underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Caribbean states and advancing South-South cooperation. The waiver is expected to boost trade, tourism, education exchanges, and cultural collaboration between the two nations.
“This partnership is not only about ease of travel but also about building bridges between Africa and the Caribbean. It is an opportunity to deepen historical connections and open doors for business and investment,” one official stated.
For Nigerians, the development offers a rare opportunity to visit the twin-island Caribbean federation, renowned for its beaches, tourism, and economic citizenship program, without navigating lengthy visa processes.
St. Kitts & Nevis authorities also welcomed the agreement, noting that it represents a new chapter in their engagement with Africa.
Analysts see the visa waiver as a step toward greater Afro-Caribbean integration, potentially paving the way for similar arrangements with other countries in the region.
