Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a firm directive following the circulation of a viral video showing passenger Comfort Emmanson in a state of indecent exposure during a recent in-flight altercation. Keyamo announced that the staff member responsible for releasing the sensitive footage to the public will be identified and subjected to strict disciplinary action.
The video, which emerged after an incident aboard an Ibom Air Uyo–Lagos flight, has stirred nationwide outrage — not only over the altercation itself but also over the ethical breach in making such a private and humiliating moment public. The Minister, condemning the leak in the strongest terms, stressed that the Nigerian aviation sector cannot tolerate such misconduct, particularly from those entrusted with safeguarding passenger welfare.
Speaking in an official statement, Keyamo said:
“The staff who released the video of Comfort Emmanson containing indecent exposure to the public will be singled out and adequately sanctioned. Such actions are unprofessional, unethical, and tarnish the image of our aviation industry.”
Keyamo emphasized that the aviation sector is governed by strict codes of conduct and privacy regulations, which prohibit the unauthorized recording or release of passenger images and personal information. He added that breaches of these rules undermine public confidence and could attract legal consequences under both civil aviation laws and Nigeria’s data protection frameworks.
Sources within the Ministry indicate that an internal investigation is already underway, with cooperation from Ibom Air management and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). Authorities are reviewing available evidence, including access logs and communication records, to determine exactly who was involved in the leak.
Ibom Air had earlier distanced itself from responsibility for the viral clip, condemning the leak as an unethical act and vowing to assist in finding the culprit. The airline stressed its commitment to protecting passenger dignity and ensuring that such breaches do not recur.
Public reaction to Keyamo’s statement has been mixed — while many Nigerians applaud the Minister’s strong stance on privacy and professionalism, others have called for even stricter penalties for those found guilty of such misconduct. Legal experts have also weighed in, noting that the victim, Comfort Emmanson, could pursue legal action for invasion of privacy and emotional distress.
