Veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze has passed away at the age of 75 following a prolonged battle with prostate cancer, his passing reported on Friday, July 18, 2025
Filmmaker Stanley Ajemba Chibueze—better known as Stanley Ontop—confirmed the tragic news on Saturday, July 19, stating:
“We just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday… Nollywood loses another legend.”
Njemanze had earlier publicly appealed for financial support to cover treatment and urgent medical intervention, with Ontop sharing heartbreaking footage of the actor hospitalized and on life support .
An esteemed figure of the 1990s Nollywood era, Tom Njemanze left a remarkable legacy with roles in classics like Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Atosa, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Brain Box, Igbotic Love, Died Wretched, Magic Cap, Twin Brothers, Full Moon, Last Kobo, and My School Mother .
Fans, friends, and colleagues from across Nigeria have expressed deep sorrow, praising his powerful performances, commanding presence, and humble spirit on set. Many have also called for greater awareness of men’s health and regular screening for prostate conditions .
His death marks yet another painful farewell to a Nollywood icon whose body of work helped shape the industry’s identity and cultural influence.
