In a shocking development just months ahead of the highly anticipated Anambra State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, has reportedly been shot by unidentified gunmen in Abuja.
The incident occurred late Saturday evening near the Wuse Zone 5 area, where eyewitnesses say Ezenwafor was ambushed while leaving a private political meeting. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. His condition remains critical but stable, according to sources close to his campaign team.
The identity and motive of the attackers remain unknown as of the time of this report. The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“This is an attack on democracy,” said a senior PDP official. “Our party is deeply concerned about the security of our candidates, and we demand swift action from security agencies.”
Ezenwafor, a prominent figure in Anambra politics, was recently announced as the PDP flagbearer for the November 8, 2025, governorship election. His emergence had energized the party’s base and intensified political activity in the state.
The shooting has raised serious concerns about political violence and security leading up to the polls. Civil society groups and election observers have urged the government to beef up protection for all candidates and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
More details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
